Education

I was born and raised in the Dallas area before moving to Houston to attend school. I graduated from Rice University with a Bachelor of Arts in Visual and Dramatic Arts with Dual Concentrations in Political Science and Biological Sciences. I was pre-medical for 3 years and have a strong background in natural sciences and math. I graduated with a 3.74 GPA overall. After graduation, I was offered an AmeriCorps placement (basically the domestic Peace Corps) in Austin, where I had been living and working for two years. I then moved to New York City, where I received my Masters Degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs from NYU. After graduation, I moved to Springfield, MO, where I worked at a state university. I recently relocated to the Boston area for a new position at Bentley University.

Experience

As an AmeriCorps member, I worked for an education non-profit that serves low income and first generation students to help them get into and make it through college. My work involved helping them refile financial aid documents, keeping up with class loads and schedules, connecting them with campus resources and activities, and aiding in the university transfer process. I have been tutoring, both formally and informally, for about 10 years. At Rice, I worked as an Academic Fellow, a tutor for students at each residential college. I tutored current college students in chemistry, biology lab, organic chemistry, and physics at their request. Additionally, I worked as a teaching assistant for an Experimental Biology lab for two semesters after taking the class and being selected by my professor. I spent the majority of the time running lab experiments, grading papers, and aiding students in writing results and papers. In Austin, NYC, and Springfield, I tutored students in physics, chemistry, pre-calculus, algebra, and middle school math. I can work with both trig and non-trig based physics, including EMag, Mechanics, Fluids, Waves and Optics, and Nuclear. Test scores: 329 GRE (161 Verbal, 168 Quantitative) with 5 Writing Score 2220 SAT I (680 Verbal, 800 Math, and 740 writing) 800 SAT II Math II 800 SAT II Chemistry 780 SAT II Physics 34 ACT Composite 10 AP exams: 8 "5"s in Physics B, Chemistry, Calculus BC, Biology, American History, English Language and Composition, Macro Economics, and US Government 2 "4"s in English Literature and World History If you have any questions about the scores above, please do not hesitate to contact me. For parents with college aged students, I also do college application help. This can include essay editing, researching universities, and application assistance.

Hobbies

If there is one hobby in my life, it is laughing. Majoring in theater puts you in contact with a lot of talented people with a lot of energy, so laughing was and remains a regular activity for me. I am still extremely interested in theater, even though I currently work in education. I choose education after working for orientation at my university and fell in love with student affairs and development. I am a huge fan of reading and tend to read a book every couple of weeks. Recent reads have included The Color of Water and Ready Player One. Ironically, my two favorite classes in college where my two English seminars, even though I swore in high school I would never take an English class in college. I am also a huge culture person. I love learning about different areas of the world. Living in Houston was amazing for this, as I got to interact directly with a wide range of cultural backgrounds. After living in New York for a short time, I am excited to continue to learn about opinions and lifestyles much different that my own.
